As a  dog trainer and behavioural therapist I help people understand where their dog is coming from.

There are not too many things as perplexing as getting frustrated with a dog you love. People often relate to me that after owning a number of dogs that seem to just fit in, why their current one causes all sorts of problems. This is where I come in. They are often amazed once we show them how to speak to the dog in their language not ours and show them how to see things from the dogs point of view how quickly their dogs respond to our simple system. My aim is for their dog to relate to them, not me.

Just recently, I worked with a lady and a Miniature Schnauzer. Someone had given her bad advice in the past and he peed when he was yelled at. I took this on board and started working through the owner gently, but authoritively. Not only did he not pee when corrected quite successfully for  his barking issues, I could see his confidence building. After a number of training exercises including lead work, it became apparent he was lapping up (sorry about the pun, I am a dog trainer after all) his inter-action with his owner. He just wanted to please her.

I have been providing excellent service with Bark Busters In Home Dog Training in the Melbourne East area  since 2005; and like all Bark Buster trainers are regularly assessed to keep our skill level high. Apart from our formal skills, the dogs and their owners are our best teachers. Every dog, every client and every environment is different. Until I reach that big kennel in the sky, I will always come across something that little bit different that teaches me.

My own dog is a rescue dog from the RSPCA. She  has a timid nature and always will show signs of timidity, but where she came from to where she is today is like chalk and cheese. Even though she has a timid nature, she is very good at manipulation. One day when I was watching TV, I was a little later than usual in taking her for a walk and she knew it, so she stood about 2 metres away on the side just staring at me. Because I ignored her she got very smart and sat in front of the TV staring back at me. I was watching TV between two big ears. Of course at that stage I gave her a command ‘’on your bed’ to which she reluctantly complied. It can sometimes be the small things that give your dog confidence in you. I have dealt with everything from aggression , barking, jumping up and over exuberance to more obscure problems like the Brittany Spaniel who lived on the 5th floor of an apartment building, was happy to travel in the lift to the car park, but wouldn’t get out of the lift because of the shiny, painted surface of the floor. He now walks beautifully to the car, without the owner having to carry him from the lift.
Where we have the advantage at Bark Busters is our great network of trainers who between us have seen just about any problem a dog can throw at us, and the satisfaction in delving into areas other trainers may baulk at. I’m sure we can help you too.

If you need any help or advice, please don't hesitate to call me, your Local Expert, on Freecall 1800 067 710 or email me direct.

Some of My Clients Have Said...

I was pleasantly surprised by the instantaneous results.  I was very happy to learn that these techniques did not involve any more than voice control against traditional methods of choke chains or other punishments.  Despite being a dog owner of many years, there were many things that I was unaware of.  It was insightful for me and beneficial for the way I will be training Euro now.
