My name is Teresa and I am your local Bark Busters dog training expert for the Hills West Hawkesbury/Hills District.  I am currently administering the Western Suburbs area.

From an early age I wanted to work with animals, so I started working as a Veterinary Nurse on completion of school - a job I loved. After working in this field for 8 years, my family came along. I then moved on to jobs in other areas but always wanted to go back to working with animals and in particular training dogs.  

When I discovered Bark Busters through my father, who owned the Illawarra/Southern Highlands area for many years, I saw firsthand the remarkable results that could be achieved very quickly, I was just amazed. (Like him, I had trained my own dogs with local clubs for many years.) I knew I wanted to do this full time.

I joined the business 10 years ago,  and still love working with my clients and their dogs with a passion, as there is nothing like the satisfaction of helping owners understand and improve the relationship they have with their dogs.

We teach people to communicate with their dogs in a language that dogs can understand, which means the dogs learn and respond quickly to training. We address barking, jumping up, aggression, bad toileting habits, lead work, recall and much more without being physical, something I do not feel is necessary.

Unlike many people who go to work to earn a living, this is more than a job to me, I never tire of seeing the excitement and sheer relief on some of my clients faces at the end of a session, for some dogs I am their last chance (so to speak) as their owners have tried many different methods with little to no effect or are at their wits end due to their own frustrations and at times a neighbour complaining to them about their dogs barking.

What I love about my work is that I never know what I am about to walk into.  Once I went to see a client who lived on a large property, he was so excited to tell me he was expecting his first litter of miniature pigs.  As we walked down the back of his property to do some training with his young pup I glanced over to where his pigs were and on the ground I noticed 2 newborn piglets walking around the yard.  As I told my client he went into panic mode as the male pig was still in the pen with the female and apparently the male will eat the piglets, so he yelled at me to tie the puppy up to a pole and run into the pig pen to save the piglets. To my surprise as I stepped into the pen I sank into knee deep mud, I have never laughed so much in all my life, I then delivered another 10 piglets while he ran to the house to get his wife.  So what was supposed to be an hour visit turned into a 4 hour visit and a story I have laughed about for many years with friends.

I, myself, currently have a variety of dogs - a 13 year old Whippet, 3 Golden Retrievers and 2 French Bulldogs. We spend a lot of time together as my son and I show our dogs on a regular basis, which takes us all over the state.  I have also participated in many different activities over the years with my dogs from Flyball, Obedience and Agility.
