Pisces
February 19 - March 20

Pisces are sensitive, loving creatures that need lots of love and reassurance. This is not your everyday-type dog. They will want to be near you and will need a lot of training to build their confidence, as well as require your understanding and patience, but the rewards will be great.

Dogs that are Pisces are very loyal and generally do not want to stray too far from home. They need many walks to keep them from becoming too withdrawn or lazy. They generally enjoy good health, and they usually have a slim, lithe body.

Airean dogs have many fans and are the clowns of the signs. They will have you laughing at their cute and funny antics and they know exactly what to do to make you laugh. Aireans are always in the thick of things, and they will bring your slippers or the paper for a loving pat or just to hear you say, “Oh, isn’t he cute!”

They are so adorable you want to rush out and buy one, but they aren’t without their problems. They will sometimes test your patience, especially when you want some down time. Walks are good but are not usually their main interest. They respond well to training because it allows them to show off their skills, but there must be plenty of challenges for them to keep their interest. Aireans need a healthy diet, regular vet checks and lots of attention from those they love.

Taurus
April 20 - May 20

Stubbornness is the word that generally springs to mind when you think of the Taurean dog. They have a stubborn streak and will normally want things their own way. Because they have their own ways of doing things and get away with them most of the time, Taureans will outsmart you time and time again. Owners of these dogs generally find themselves bribing them to get them to do what they want. Even then, sometimes the Taureans will still dance to their own tune. When it suits them, the Taureans can be the charmer of the dog world; they can be loving and caring pets. However, they will not always listen to commands and will obey only if they think their owners are about to give up and lose their cool. Taureans dogs will sit and look at you with a blank stare when you say to your friends, “Look at the new trick I taught him”. They perform only when it suits them - when they see their owners getting very frustrated. All that said, love them you will. They will be your pride and joy. Regular vet visits are essential.

Gemini
May 21 - June 20

The Gemini dog is the “will of the wisp” that keeps its owner guessing to the very end. They are one of the most adorable doggy star signs and full of mischief, but they are not the kind of dog that everyone can cope with. They will test your patience with their need to always play, romp, chew and dig -- and then, win you over. They need lots of exercise and will want to be where the action is. They are usually the dog that will run into the vet hospital looking for that special someone who greeted them the last time. Geminis have the ability to be ahead of the pack in obedience training but will generally act dumb to see if it’s worth their while. Once they get the message, they will jump in with all paws but need lots of variety to stave off boredom. Variety is the “ spice of life” when it comes to owning a Gemini dog, so keep its active mind busy with training and lots of educational toys.

Cancer
June 21 - July 22

Cancerian dogs are generally very sensitive to any sort of change and to their owner’s moods. They will easily curl up with you on the floor while you read a good book. They’re a great friend and companion, and you will never be lonely when you have them around.

However, they can be a bit withdrawn if things don’t go their way, and they may even sulk. This is the time to leave them to their own space and get on with what you wanted to do. They will soon return to join the family with renewed vigor. Because of their sensitivity, they need plenty of good nutrition and regular visits to the vet and groomers to ensure that they are in top shape.

Leo
July 23 - August 22

Leos are generally the strongest of all dogs and have a willingness to please personality. They have a slight streak of stubbornness that rarely comes alive, but when it does, it makes you sit up and take notice. The Leo loves its food and, like the Capricorn, is prone to weight problems. They will tug at your heart strings when you are eating, and will look with mournful eyes when you don’t give them something. Don’t fall for their ploy as they are just trying to get you to give up some of your food. Leos need lots of exercise. They will never exercise themselves, preferring to lie around and wait for you to take them somewhere exciting. They are a great pet for the not so energetic person. Training and exercise is important for their health and well-being. Regular vet checks are essential to ensure that they are kept healthy and happy.

Virgo
August 23 - September 22

Virgo dogs need routine and order. They need to know that their meals will be on time. They like to know where everything is placed and that things will remain constant. Virgo dogs are generally quite well behaved and not destructive.

Behavioural problems (if they exist) will generally be caused by the stress of their routine being altered or by a new dog moving into the neighbourhood. They are known to be worriers and do not like being left home alone. Virgo dogs are very loving, but some can be demanding as their need to have everything working like clockwork controls their life. Normal vet visits are essential, as are regular walks. But don’t fall for their trap of getting into a constant routine or they will rule your life. They need to learn to cope, and with regular training, this will occur.

Libra
September 23 - October 22

Libran dogs are generally the most levelheaded of all. They will make you proud to be a part of their life. They generally enjoy everyone, and women especially love them. They have the extraordinary ability to win hearts.

Libran dog are normally trouble free. If they do have a behaviour problem, though, they generally are willing to work with their owner. These dogs usually don’t have too many health problems but should visit the vet at least once a year for a general check up. Libran dogs nearly always fit in wherever they go. They have no problems making new friends. Lots of walks are essential so they can keep fit because they always like to look their best.

Scorpio
October 23 - November 21

Scorpio dogs like company and being the center of attention. They have a great memory and know where their owners hide the biscuits and liver treats. They will perform tricks to get what they want and they never tire of showing off. They might not, however, be your neighbor’s favorite dog because of their barking to gain attention.

Behavioural training might be necessary. However, Scorpio dogs generally catch on quickly to what their owner wants and will step into line if lots of praise accompanies the training. They like attention and will do anything to get it. A regular walk is essential. Diet is an issue because they are always looking for food and will do anything to get it, even raiding the rubbish bin. Owners should keep an eye on where they leave food and keep it out of their dog’s reach.

Sagittarius
November 22 - December 21

Sagittarian dogs are generally the most active of all. They are normally the dogs you will see jogging beside their owners or riding the skateboard down the street with owner in tow. They have boundless energy, but some can be prone to being lazy if allowed to become overweight. Their diet needs to be watched to make sure that they don’t overindulge between meals.

Sagittarian dogs definitely need stimulating toys to keep them from getting into mischief or digging in the garden. They love training and will want to be involved in anything that keeps them mentally challenged. This is one dog that must have regular training and daily walks.

Capricorn
December 22 - January 19

The Capricorn dogs are very well grounded and will generally win everyone’s heart with their desire to please. However, they can quickly wrap their owners around their paws, enjoying every minute of it. Capricorn dogs are prone to overeat and overindulge in general, beating all other dogs to the bowl. Owners need to keep a check on their dog’s eating to ensure they don’t become overweight. Capricorn dogs are very intelligent and will know exactly what you want, but every now and then will test your patience by giving you that cute look that melts your heart. Ensure that your Capricorn dog has regular vet checks to maintain its health, regular training to stimulate its active mind, and educational doggy toys to entertain it. Capricorn dogs do need a strong leader who won’t give in to their every demand so as to keep them on track and in good health.

Aquarius
January 20 - February 18

The Aquarian dog is like no other you could ever meet. It is an individual and proud of it. It will want to rule the roost and will if you allow it to. Some days, Aquarian dogs will be angels and do everything they are asked to do, and other days they will be the devil incarnate. However, you can’t help but love their individuality. Over time, owners learn to take the good with the bad. Aquarian dogs can be aloof with strangers and over the top with people they know. But they are not easily won over and will only want to please those they really like. They are generally very healthy but should have regular check ups at the vet to maintain their natural health and vitality. Regular training sessions to stimulate their active mind should be part of their regular regime. Schedule lots of walks to keep them fit and happy.
